I’m not quite the TV junkie that I used to be (thank goodness). I would like to think it’s because I’ve come to understand the depravity that television can bring into one’s life and I don’t need that kind of exposure to worldly ideas.
But really it’s more to do with the fact that I have 2 children who consume 90% of my time and until there’s more than 24 hours in a day, I’m not going to be sitting in front of the tube much. That and there really isn’t anything super great on these days anyways….
BUT, there’s a little show called LOST and this one has had me hooked for several years now. We are FINALLY in the last season of the show, which is both awesome and “bumming” at the same time. Awesome because the viewer (addict) will hopefully get many of their unending questions answered; bumming because there will once again be even fewer good shows to watch (I’ve got 10 channels people, not much to choose from!!).
There seems to be a constant theme that runs through my mind as I watch each episode. It goes something like this:
“HUH? OH….HUH? WAIT….WHAT??”
Now, if I were to know that part about this show beforehand, I would definitely dismiss it as a huge waste of my precious free time.
But that’s the kicker: it doesn’t frustrate me. It just makes me anticipate the next week’s episode, as though I’m right there on the island with these good-looking castaways who never have a need to eat ANYTHING or drink ANYTHING while traipsing through jungles and rivers and coming upon people and then NEVER asking them for something to eat or drink, or how it is that they can be so sweaty but never complain about needing a shower or a jump in a lake…I could go on. Obviously I have issues with how these folks manage daily life on the island….
There has only been one other such show that sucked me into every episode and that was ALIAS. If you’re tired of the hum-drum show that just gives you the same people in the same type of scenarios, then I highly recommend you Netflix yourself the first season of ALIAS. Where else can one chick have so many complex problems while saving the world from impending disaster at the same time?
I have nothing more to offer than this, Jack did drink out of a canteen, so did Jin. That said I am right there with you. AND Alias was our very favorite show before Lost so as usual you have great taste. 🙂 Excited about what the rest of the season will bring. Relieved that this is the last season and sad about that at the same time.
yeah, i know in the first season there was that “we need to search for fresh water or we’re all gonna die of dehydration” bit, but since then it’s been very few encounters with actual drink & food. just a minor pet peeve since i’m pretty clueless most of the time i’m watching!! i can see myself years from now (when i hopefully have a little more time on my hands) perusing the various online forums & reading about everyone’s theories & observations. i start reading that stuff now & my head about explodes because i can’t believe people are that intuitive while watching a TV show!!
I actually blame you for my addictions to CSI and Alias!!!! From one of my visits, I remember us watching a few episodes, really enjoying them and then I had to wait till they came out here and I was hooked!
Though I have to say I lost interest round about season 4/5 with Alias but those first few series were awesome – I loved everything about it, the music, the different outfits (yeah, I’m fickle like that!:)), the storyline of course…..all good. Other shows that I have loved are The West Wing and the Gilmore Girls. Currently I really feel we have no great series to watch. 😦 I have started watching Mercy, but it’s not great.
Actually I started watching LOST when we were back in Ireland and were training for the marathon, Gillian and I talked about each episode on our long runs!!!! And on the day of the marathon, Rachel had somehow seen a few episodes ahead of us and so we decided to wait until mile 13 (in case by that stage we were bored or needed distraction!) for her to tell us all the scoop – funny! I kinda lost interest after series one though mainly because I wasn’t seeing the episodes in the right order and it was all out of sync for me.
Sorry, that was a LONG answer! 🙂
by far the first 3 seasons of ALIAS are the best – we just finished Season 3 on DVD & i’m eager to get to Season 4, only to find out the rest of the story – i know it gets rather “hoaky” the last 2 seasons. and YES – Gilmore Girls was a huge fave of mine as well, but i only became interested after it had gone to video. for some reason i didn’t latch onto it when it was on network TV. CSI was only interesting to me because of the Vegas connection but it got really old really fast for me – too much crime, blood & all that. i was always thinking there didn’t ALWAYS have to be a murder to involve CSI – why couldn’t they have been investigating robberies or some other type of crime?
I’ve watched both LOST and ALIAS (through Netflix), and loved both. With LOST, though, the whole questions unanswered thing started bothering me, so when the season that jumped time at the end (the one where they all got off the island) ended, I called it quits.
With ALIAS I ran out of time. I watched the first season or two (or three) while Zoe was breastfeeding CONSTANTLY. Thankfully she grew out of that, but then I didn’t have as much time to watch TV.
Now I’m addicted to Castle (via hulu–we don’t have our TV hooked up to any stations, we just watch DVDs on it). We also love The Mentalist.
I like HULU too – but have you heard of Roku? It’s a one-time fee for a box that you hook up & then it gives you all kinds of free shows & the rest you can get through Netflix. http://www.roku.com/ My brother & his wife are trying it out – just another way to watch TV without all the commercials & fluff! I’ve got bits & pieces of The Mentalist & I definitely think I’d be hooked if I had the time. 😉
